Public Schools:

The Academy District features 6 High Schools, 6 Middle Schools, 21 Elementary Schools, including the Home School Academy and 4 Charter Schools. Additionally, the district features a full range on of athletic, music and extra curricular programs. 


Elementary School: 

Edith Wolford, is the Elementary School for the Cathedral Pines subdivision. Wolford, formerly known as the Black Forest School has existed in some form of fashion in its current location since 1951. The school was renamed Edith D. Wolford Elementary school in 1969, in honor of Mrs. Wolford who had been the school's principal since 1952.

 

Middle School:   

Challenger Middle School, Challenger opened in 1966 as Air Academy Junior High School, becoming the first junior high in Academy School District #20. After a lengthy internal study the Challenger staff and community embraced the middle school philosophy. Following the tragic Challenger 7 Space mission, the community, students and staff decided officially to change its name and its status in 1986 and became Challenger Middle School in recognition of the seven astronauts. Challenger has been the recipient of multiple awards and honors.

In the 1999 Challenger became the technology choice middle school for the Academy School District. Together with one elementary feeder school and a high school, Challenger creates a K-12 technology strand.

 

High School:

Pine Creek High School, Pine Creek is a comprehensive four year, technology magnet high school located on the far north side of Colorado Springs with a student population of approximately 1600 in grades nine through twelve with 109 licensed teachers. The school is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and holds membership in the National Association of College Admissions Counselors. The first senior class was the Class of 2000.
